Bike paths, REM and gender parity

Re: “Will Plante be more than OK on second try?” (Lise Ravary, Nov. 30)

Montreal has been the Paris of the north for a long time; no need to duplicate Boston!

Bike paths in winter? Better clear the sidewalks instead.

As for what the REM de l'est will look like, on the West Island we can already see that the pillars are not elegant sculptures. Nice, residential areas have been “eco-uglified.” Presumably too late to do anything about that here.

In any case, the money should be going elsewhere instead, like health, housing and addressing the homelessness problem.

Regarding the gender makeup of Montreal's new executive committee, Ravary says: “I vehemently disagree with engineered parity in government.” But what about the Quebec government's Bill 21? Ideally, everyone should be chosen for a job because they are good at it and not because of whether or not they wear religious symbols.
